My recent visit to the 24/7 pharmacy left me with mixed impressions. While the facility itself is relatively clean and surrounded by a refreshing number of trees, the overall experience was affected by noticeable gaps in customer service and pedestrian safety.
One of the most concerning aspects was the behavior of some dispensers. On multiple occasions, I observed staff members arguing with clients—an interaction that should never occur in a healthcare setting. Even more troubling was the fact that after some clients left, staff were seen speaking behind their backs. This kind of conduct not only undermines the dignity of the customer but also erodes trust in the professionalism of the pharmacy. I strongly believe that management should prioritize training in interpersonal skills, empathy, and respectful communication. A pharmacy should be a place of care, not conflict.
On the positive side, the environment was fairly well-maintained. The presence of trees adds a calming touch and contributes to a more pleasant atmosphere. However, pedestrian safety around the pharmacy is a serious concern. The road lacks sufficient speed ramps, making it risky for people walking nearby. Drivers often pass at high speeds, and without proper traffic calming measures, the area becomes hazardous—especially for the elderly, children, and those with mobility challenges.
In summary, while the pharmacy has potential and serves an important role in the community, improvements in staff conduct and road safety would greatly enhance its credibility and public trust.

Since it's a large complex area I would like to break it down:
Quality of Care: Mixed. While many dedicated healthcare professionals strive to provide the best possible care, the sheer volume of patients and resource limitations can sometimes impact quality and lead to long waiting times. Experiences can vary significantly between departments.
Waiting Times: Generally long, especially for non-emergency cases and specialized consultations. This is a common challenge in large public hospitals with high demand.
Facilities: Extensive, covering a wide range of medical specialties. However, some facilities and equipment may be outdated or overstretched due to high usage and funding constraints. Ongoing efforts are being made to modernize and expand infrastructure.
Specific Departments/Services: Offers a comprehensive array of services, from general medicine and surgery to specialized areas like cardiology, oncology, and neurosurgery. Some departments are centers of excellence within the region.
Staff: A mix of experienced specialists, dedicated nurses, and other healthcare workers. The high patient load can put significant pressure on staff.
General Perceptions: Often seen as the "go-to" hospital for complex and specialized medical needs in Ghana. However, it also carries a reputation for being bureaucratic and sometimes challenging to navigate.
Personal Experiences: Highly variable. Some patients report positive experiences with skilled and caring staff, while others face frustrations with waiting times, communication, or perceived quality of care. Socioeconomic factors can also influence individual experiences.
In summary, Korle Bu is a vital national institution providing crucial healthcare services. It has strengths in its breadth of specialties and the dedication of many staff, but it also faces significant challenges related to overcrowding, resources, and waiting times.
