New Ashongman Community Hospital provides 24/7 general and emergency healthcare services and accepts NHIS, which makes it accessible to many in the surrounding communities. The hospital has made commendable improvements, such as introducing executive wards with modern amenities and upgrading diagnostic equipment. However, patient reviews are mixed—while some appreciate the availability and affordability, others report concerns about staff professionalism, hygiene standards, and unclear billing practices. Continued staff training, better supervision, and improved communication with patients could significantly enhance its reputation and overall service quality.

Staff sleeps on the job - No patient supervision besides myself who was the only person awake. The nurses sleep in the beds in the ER at The Community Hospital New Ashongman which is a Horrible facility. Please don’t use them if you have other options you deserve better care by professionals and they are not and the nurses cannot draw blood or start an IV properly they blew two veins on my husband and overcharged for everything from consulting, prescriptions, drawing blood, emergency room discharge, blood tests, they refused to refund me and my husband for medication we refused due to it not being warranted for the symptoms he was having Malaria and typhoid which he did have after all yet they wanted to prescribe him Promethezine and diclofenac which are pain and cough medicine and When we refused we were told if we didn’t like
Dr. Theo’s treatment plan we could leave the facility. They never asked why we were refusing it by Dr. Theopholis so We contacted two concerned family Registered Nurses who were advising us to ensure my husband was receiving what he needed and when I requested to speak with the doctor privately away from other patients the doctor refused. My husband had to advise the staff to speak English so his wife who is me would understand the treatment which was not done throughout the course of the visit. The medication he did not receive was not refunded we were denied by the ER nurse a refund. The staff was rude , slow and slept not supervising the three patients one in which came to the ER in extreme pain was poked (4) times before starting her IV which was clear the nurse did not know how to run and IV or find a good vein before poking she poked that patient and my husband multiple times caused more pain. It was so hard to watch her not do her job correctly. The facility need to be evaluated to determine if they are qualified to perform the ER duties they perform. They prescribe unnecessary medication and charged over 870 GHC$ for that visit. Do not go to this facility!!! I am begging if you care about your health or the health of your family.

One of the most terrible places you could ever go to.
They refused me dental care because I had insurance even after they reached the insurance company to confirm. The woman (Paulina) clearly mentioned if I’m willing to pay cash it’ll be done.

Title: Disappointing Experience at Ashongman Community Hospital
I recently had the unfortunate experience of receiving medical care at Ashongman Community Hospital, and I must say that I am deeply disappointed with the overall quality of service I encountered during my stay. As a patient, I feel compelled to share my concerns and make some recommendations for improvement.
Unprofessional and Rude Staff: Some of the nurses displayed unprofessional behavior and were consistently rude. Their demeanor and attitude towards patients left much to be desired, which created a hostile environment for those seeking care and comfort.
Hygiene Issues: The state of the hospital's cleanliness was concerning. Bedsheets and beds appeared old and visibly dirty, compromising both patient comfort and safety. The presence of mosquitoes in patient rooms was a significant issue and created an uncomfortable atmosphere.
Lack of Assistance: Patients were left to fend for themselves when it came to obtaining medications from the dispensary. This lack of assistance was not only inconvenient but also potentially dangerous, especially for those with limited mobility.
Inadequate IV Tubing Line Skills: The hospital staff need better training in setting up IV tubing lines. The process was often painful and poorly executed, leading to unnecessary discomfort for patients.
Delayed Responses: Nurses at the hospital seemed to respond to patient calls at their own convenience, rather than promptly addressing urgent needs. This delay in response time could have serious consequences in critical situations.
Poor Housekeeping: The overall housekeeping and maintenance of the hospital left much to be desired. Cleanliness and sanitation standards should be a top priority in any healthcare facility.
Lack of Customer Service: The level of customer service provided was far from satisfactory. Patients should be treated with empathy, respect, and compassion, which was regrettably lacking during my stay.
Recommendations for Improvement:
Conduct regular training and workshops for staff on professionalism, empathy, and patient-centered care.
Implement a rigorous cleaning and maintenance schedule to ensure the hospital environment is clean and free from pests.
Establish a system to assist patients in obtaining their medications, particularly those who are unable to do so themselves.
Invest in proper training for setting up IV tubing lines to minimize patient discomfort.
Develop a responsive protocol for attending to patient calls promptly.
Improve housekeeping standards to maintain a clean and hygienic environment.
Foster a culture of respect and empathy among the staff to enhance overall customer service.
It is my hope that Ashongman Community Hospital takes these concerns and recommendations seriously to enhance the quality of care provided to its patients. A healthcare facility should prioritize patient comfort, safety, and well-being above all else, and there is room for significant improvement in this regard.
